What can i expect in Taxco?

Taxco is considered the "Silver" capital of Mexico situated in the north-central part of the state of Guerrero and 170 kilometres (106 miles) southwest of Mexico City. It is a quaint and rustic town. There are no mainstream restaurant chains of ANY kind (no fast food). It is very authentic and affordable in every way. Things to expect are : Because the town is from the 17th century on a hilltop, some of the water systems can be quite old- it is quite normal for things to be rustic and at times a little dated. Not many foreign tourists around.

PLEASE NOTE: Bring comfortable shoes as there is a lot of walking.

What is the Water situation in Taxco?

Do not drink the tap water in Mexico period. Although locals may drink it, it is not always safe for our foreign systems. Safe to brush your teeth but we suggest rinsing/swallowing with bottled water just to be safe. Same goes for restaurants, ask for bottled water. TAXCO WATER SYSTEM: Because it was established in the 17th century and it's on a hilltop, some of the water systems can be old/slow. It is normal for water tanks to take a long time to heat up and in fact can take about 10-20 minutes for the hot water to start coming out of the showers in hotels... so we strongly suggest to plan your showers ahead of time so you don't have to rush and take a cold shower.

What is the weather like in Taxco in December?

The climate in Taxco is mild, with average highs around 27 °C (81 °F) and average lows around 17 °C (63 °F) year-round.[8] The dry season lasts from November to April. The heat is also dry heat so not very humid. You can expect mornings and evenings to perhaps need a light sweater.

Is Taxco Safe?

Yes, one of the reasons why we chose Taxco is not only because of how beautiful it is, but also how safe. Because they live off tourism, they cherish tourists and want them to feel safe. Like any place, we do recommend taking precaution and not exploring outside the city to other cities on your own. Additionally, Taxco is accessible by a toll highway that is patrolled by Federal Police, the Mexican government protects all toll highways to alleviate tourists traveling through Mexico, and the chartered bus to and from Taxco will be traveling on the toll highway.

How do you explore Taxco?

Taxco is made up of very narrow cobble stone streets that make it easy to get lost in and enjoyable to walk through. Feel free to explore the city by simply walking. You can also use the public transports which are called "combis" these are old minivan like cars with the passenger door removed and have destinations written on them. These are public and totally safe and super cheap to take. Not to mention fun, everyone on them is mostly a local and very nice. They cost about $0.30 CAD per person. Just ask the driver the location you're going to and he/she will tell you which to hop on. You will see people standing on corners for them all around the outskirts of the "downtown". The taxis are also safe and convenient, more pricy than the bus "combis" but still super cheap.

Is there air conditioner in the hotels?

To be honest, there was none in any of the hotels we have stayed at, the weather is pleasant enough that it stays cool inside. The buildings are also made from brick/stone so they maintain cool. Outside can get quite hot (although in December is very enjoyable) but inside, we've never felt we needed one. In fact in December morning and evenings, you might need a light sweater.

The countdown is on - we can't wait to see everyone there!
